This new reality has led some people to conclude that divorce is the best option for them, but they are uncertain as to what they could do at this time.
Whether your divorce is agreed upon or not will determine just how long the process will last. While the media has reported the courts are closed to the general public, divorces can still move forward in several ways. The courts are accepting new divorce filings and are holding hearings via Zoom, so that the process can begin. Parents can take the mandatory parenting classes online. Lawyers can advise clients of their rights while the parties participate in virtual mediation sessions with a neutral. Required financial documentation can be exchanged while the lawyers work to negotiate Temporary Orders and eventually a final agreement.
Life may have changed overnight, but how you want to live the rest of your life is still something to consider. Having an attorney with the resources and knowledge to give you the best representation is vital to your interest and the interest of your family. You also want to make sure they will exhaust all avenues and be willing to research, pursue and implement strategies to provide the best possible outcome.
